Websites: Custom vs. Customized. Which one are you paying for?

All to often I see other "Agencies" or "Web Designers" (more on why those are in quotes later) oferring custom designed websites. On the surface, at least to the client, that's what they think they are getting. Looks pretty, uses their colors, logo, throw some images in there.

But a closer look reveals the truth.

A $50 mass produced template that is being used on hundreds if not thousands of sites. You paided for custom, were told you were getting custom, but what you actually got was a customization.

The template is not optimised to convert, it's often slow and bloated, and he only people that benifit from this deal is the "Agency".

We do things a little diffrently

We don't use off the shelf templates but rather templates we actually did custom design. This gives us absolute control that you don't get with those other templates. This has several benifits that are often overlooked by massed produced templates.

1. Performance

We control everything that goes into it so we can make sure your site is as fast as possible. This is more important than ever with the changes to Google's Web Core Vitals (WCV).

2. Accesiablity

This is a complicated topic but there are some basic best practices that should be followed.

  • Text Contrast
  • Alt attraibutes on images
  • Symantic markup

Being transparent is important.

To be clear there is nothing wrong with using a template and customizing it, there are pleanty of reasons you might want to, but if you do you should be transparent about it with your clients.

Is it a bit much to say these business are lying? Maybe but at the very least it's stretching the truth.
